Yolanda M. Blakely, lovingly known to family and friends as Mammie, Yoyo or Yole, passed away peacefully at her home in Arlington, Texas, on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on May 15, 1951, in Beeville, Texas, to Melquiades T. Medina and Maria A. Medina, Yolanda's life was deeply rooted in compassion, resilience, and devotion to family.
A proud graduate of AC Jones/Beeville High School in 1970, Yolanda’s youth was marked by the joy of meeting her soulmate in 1964, Louis A. Blakely. Married in 1970, Yolanda and Louis shared more than fifty years of partnership, raising two sons and a daughter, the center of Yolanda’s devoted, joyful life.
Early in her career, Yolanda worked at Texas Commerce Bank in North Arlington, but her truest fulfillment came when she embraced her role as a full-time housewife and mother. She was the embodiment of unconditional love and quiet strength—always patient, always listening, and unfailingly devoted. Yolanda never missed a moment, breaking barriers with her selflessness to ensure her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren felt deeply cherished. Her unwavering presence and boundless generosity formed the foundation of her family’s happiness and comfort.
Yolanda delighted in life’s simple joys. Her days were brightened by early breakfasts with Louis, impromptu trips to the casino, strolls through outdoor markets, and scenic adventures together. The thrill of the casino revealed her playful, light-hearted spirit. She found pure happiness in music, especially the vibrant sounds of Mexican and Motown. When a favorite song played, Yolanda would smile, dance freely, and light up any room with her joy.
Home was her haven, always wrapped up in a cozy blanket to fend off the chill she often felt. Yolanda loved absorbing herself in Novelas and classic Westerns, with John Wayne being her favorite actor, reflecting her admiration for courage and tradition. She was also a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, adding even more vibrancy to family gatherings. For her family gatherings, Yolanda cherished her time in the kitchen, where she loved to cook for her loved ones. Her homemade tacos were a family and friends’ favorite, and she took great pride in preparing them. Additionally, she enjoyed baking goods, filling her home with warmth and wonderful aromas that brought everyone together.
Those who knew Yolanda remember her selflessness and readiness to help anyone in need. Her compassion and open-hearted generosity touched family, friends, and strangers alike, leaving a mark of kindness and unwavering support on every life she encountered.
Yolanda is preceded in death by her parents, Melquiades T. Medina and Maria A. Medina; her sister, Guadalupe Alaniz; brother-in-law, Alfonso Alaniz Sr.; and sister, Alice M. Reyna; and nephew, Omar Alaniz.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Louis A. Blakely; her cherished children: Randy Blakely, Ryan K. Blakely, Roslyn R. Medina and son-in-law Marco A. Medina; her beloved grandchildren, Emily K. T. Alvarado and husband David Alvarado; Brody R. L. Blakely, Bryson K. Blakely, Joslyn R. Medina, Marco A. Medina III, and Anthony L. Medina; and her treasured great-grandchildren Kyleigh T. Alvarado and Koen N. Alvarado.
Yolanda’s life was a testament to boundless love, quiet strength, and the joy found in family, music, and kindness. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts and memories of all who loved her.
