William Leeroy York

William Leeroy York, age 79, of Arlington, passed from this life on June 19, 2025. He was born on September 17, 1945, in Warrenville, Illinois, to his parents, Farlow and Beverly York.

A proud veteran, William honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he led a life full of passion, loyalty, and joy. He was a devoted fan of NASCAR and football, cheering wholeheartedly for his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

An avid bowler, William competed in leagues for many years, and it was through this shared love of the sport that he met his beloved wife, Cecilia Lehr. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, dancing—especially country and western—and countless backyard gatherings around his grill, where William took great pride in cooking for family and friends.

William is survived by his loving wife, Cecilia York; sons, James and Todd Berna; three daughters; two sisters; three granddaughters; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, joy, and warm memories that will live on in all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service to honor William's life will be scheduled at a later date.

He will be deeply missed.
