William Louis Shepard

February 22, 1927 — August 29, 2025

William Louis Shepard, a cherished husband, father, and distinguished engineer, passed away peacefully on August 29th, 2025 at the age of 98. Born on February 22, 1927 in Monroe, Louisiana, he was a man whose life was marked by service, leadership, a profound commitment to his family and an unshakeable faith in God.

Bill married his beloved wife, Lois, over 76 years ago, and together they built a life filled with love and dedication. For more than 50 years, they called Arlington, Texas home, after spending 13 years in Michigan. As a Navy veteran and one of the last surviving World War II veterans, Bill proudly honored his service and was recognized with his very own brick at Veterans Park – a tribute to the sacrifices he made for his country.

His academic journey began at Louisiana State University, where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1948. Bill joined the workforce at NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the predecessor of “NASA”), and then Chance Vought, which later became Lockheed Martin, dedicating over three decades of his life to the aerospace industry. He rose through the ranks to become Vice President of Engineering, where his natural leadership skills shone brightly.

An avid Texas Rangers fan, Bill relished the simplicity and joy of the game, sharing countless memories with family and fellow fans. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Huber and Frances Van Dusen Shepard, his brother Van Shepard and sisters Jean Shepard and Frances Heidenreich.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lois, brother Samuel, children William Shepard Jr., Sam Shepard, Sydney Jeff Shepard and Amelia Simpson, his cherished grandchildren Brian, Michael, Katie, Emily, Daniel and Joshua, numerous great grandchildren, and a vast network of family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

As we remember Bill, we take comfort in knowing his legacy will live on through the love of his family and the countless lives he inspired throughout his remarkable journey.
