Wayne Arlen Rohne passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2026, in Arlington at the age of ninety-five. Wayne was born on the family farm on September 8, 1931, near Cranfills Gap, Texas in rural Bosque County. He was the middle of three children born to Paul B. (Tom) Rohne and Alma B. (Tergerson) Rohne. He was baptized and confirmed at Saint Olaf’s Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap and graduated from Cranfills Gap High School in 1949. Wayne liked to say he graduated in the top twenty-five of his class (if you know you know). Following high school, Wayne enrolled at nearby Clifton Lutheran College where he played football and met Jurdiss Marie Colwick. Following graduation from Clifton College in 1951, he ventured to Luther College in Decorah, Iowa where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1953. The couple were married on November 7, 1953, and enjoyed almost 22 years together before her passing on September 13, 1975.
Wayne, having served in the Army Reserve during his college years, enlisted into active service with the US Army in 1954. He became a member of the Signal Corps stationed at the Panama Canal during the Korean War through 1956. After his honorable discharge from the Army as Specialist Fourth Class (E-4), Wayne enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law. Upon graduating and passing the bar exam in 1958, the couple moved to Fort Worth where he started working as an attorney with Simon, Crowley, Ratliff and Miller, working his way to managing partner. In 1967, he hung out his own shingle, Wayne Rohne Attorney at Law, later being joined by partner Jerry Hoodenpyle. Rohne and Hoodenpyle prospered and were prominently known in the city of Arlington until his retirement in 1993. He then worked “Of Counsel” until the early 2000’s. At that time, he again practiced law solely until the age of 90 in 2021.
Wayne forayed into politics in 1970 as a council member for the town of Pantego. He then stepped up serving as Pantego mayor for ten years from 1971 to 1981, helping the city move forward and improve in many ways. During this time, he worked with the Council of Governments which banded together smaller, local cities to better help one another. He also served as a city attorney for multiple municipalities and represented many school districts.
Wayne and Jurdiss Rohne were parents to five children. Both Roger Wayne and Mark Allen were lost as infants. Still desiring children, the couple adopted Bruce Edward, Eric Thomas and Janet Lynne, who were raised with great love and affection. After Jurdiss’ passing in 1975, Wayne married Marguerite (Marge) Rohne on December 16, 1990, and they enjoyed many adventures together until her passing May 15, 2007.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Maurine and brother-in-law Perry Suter; wife Jurdiss; son Eric Thomas; second wife Marge Wilhelm; brother Paul Bernhardt Jr. and his wife Harriet; grandson Bradley Rohne and nephews David Suter, Greg Carlson and Tommy Suter.
He is survived by his son Bruce Rohne (Lou Ann}; daughter Janet Rohne Ayala (Jaime); granddaughters: Laura Rohne, Mandi Vogel (Dustin); Alicia Ayala Anderson (Colton), grandson Jaimie Ayala Jr, and six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by stepchildren Scott and Wendy Wilhelm, their children Keeley, Riley; Sherri Wilhelm Pitre (Chris) and Jenelle Bailey.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 402 Meridian Street, Cranfills Gap on October 22, 2026 with graveside burial service to follow at St. Olafs Kirke (Old Rock Church), 2680 CR 4145, Cranfills Gap. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM on November 2, 2026 at Grace Lutheran Church, 210 W Park Row Dr, Arlington. Memorials may be given to Saint Olaf Lutheran Church – Stained Glass Renovation fund, Cranfills Gap, Texas.
Wayne was proud of his Norwegian heritage, he helped found the Norwegian Society of Texas. He enjoyed genealogy and spending time at his farm and residence in Bosque County. He lived a long and productive life fully devoted to his faith, family and career. He touched many lives and leaves a legacy of devoted service to family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
