Vergie Jean Jarden was born on February 20, 1953, in Cleveland, to Johnny “Jake” Rankin and Tommie “Madea” Rankin. She departed this life surrounded by the love and memories of family and friends, leaving behind a legacy rooted in faith, compassion, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Vergie was raised in a large and loving family and shared a close bond with her siblings: Johnnie L. Rankin II (“Baby June”), Virginia “Gel” Rankin, Pernell Rankin, Nathan Rankin, Estella Rankin, Wilma “Sweetie” Rankin, Eddie “Evan” Rankin, and Zachary “Zach” Stewart. Her family remained a constant source of strength, laughter, and support throughout her life.
A woman who valued education and perseverance, Vergie earned her Associate’s Degree and dedicated many years of faithful service to the Arlington Independent School District before retiring. Her work ethic, leadership, and caring spirit touched countless lives throughout her career. In recognition of her dedication and positive influence, she received the Jimmy Calendar Leadership Award for 2009–2010.
Above all, Vergie was a devoted servant of Jehovah God for more than 50 years. Her faith guided every aspect of her life and was reflected in the kindness, patience, and encouragement she extended to everyone she encountered. She was deeply loved within her congregation and community for her warm heart, gentle wisdom, and steadfast spiritual example.
Vergie’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves cherishing the memory of her beloved children, LaParis Jarden, Amber Jarden, and Aaron Jarden; and her treasured grandchildren, Abigail Jarden and Zeke Jarden. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose presence brought comfort and joy to many.
Those who knew Vergie will remember her for her strength, grace, generosity, and enduring faith. Her life was a beautiful testimony of love in action, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
