In Loving Memory of Sonya Yvonne Brown
Sonya Yvonne Brown, 76, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on November 14, 2025, in Arlington. Born in Fort Worth on October 15, 1949, Sonya grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1966. Shortly after attending Arlington State College, she met Richard Brown; they married soon after and built a life anchored in faith, family, and hard work.
Sonya was proud to have earned her real estate license and enjoyed a long career helping families find homes. In addition to being a mom, Sonya helped provide for the family financially in various customer-facing and sales roles, including for AT&T at The Parks Mall. In her later years, she worked at AT&T Stadium, where she delighted in meeting well-known guests and—much to her own surprise—became an enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys fan.
Those who knew Sonya remember that she never met a stranger. Warm, engaging, and an exceptional communicator, she made people feel seen and important. She was strong, steady, and deeply family-oriented—a caretaker by nature and the youngest of five siblings. She loved shopping, especially for her teal-colored accents and took pride in her appearance and carried herself with dignity and class. A devoted grandmother, Sonya treasured holidays and everyday moments with her grandchildren, often greeting them with their favorites: pizza, hot dogs, and Cheetos. She had a green thumb and filled her home with plants and flowers. Animals were a constant joy—two pet birds named Romeo and Juliet, many beloved cats through the years, and her faithful dog, Chessie.
Sonya was also good with numbers and owned four real estate properties, managing them with care and competence over the years. Above all, she wanted to be remembered as someone who loved life and loved people.
Richard, her husband and the love of her life, preceded her in death on February 14, 2025, and the family takes comfort in knowing they are reunited in heaven. Sonya is survived by her daughter, Nakeya “Nikki” Thompson, and her husband, Roderick; her son, Ricky Brown, and his wife, Nora; and her grandchildren, Makaila Edwards, Joseph Edwards and wife, Selena, and Trey Brown.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 23, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday, November 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with a visitation prior to the service from 10:00–10:50 a.m. After the service, a graveside will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens.
Sonya’s legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the kindness she shared so freely. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
