Socorro Martinez Alonzo

The woman we are remembering today loved people, loved music, dancing, wine, and food; loved to travel; loved telling jokes; loved to try new ways of doing things, even if it was folding a T-shirt. She loved art, museums, reading, visiting with people, and getting to know them down deep, heart to heart. She loved helping those with less than she had and loved giving people a hand up, as long as they were willing to help themselves.

The last Alonzo was actually Clouse, but she disliked hassles, and changing all of her documents was a hassle, so she stuck with Alonzo while married to Herb Clouse. The Wurth part of her name disappeared. If you know Cora, you understand all of this.

Cora was born on May 28, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas. Her father died when she was three, and her mother passed away when she was ten. She was raised from then on by her older half-sister, Rosa, and her husband, William.

Cora was smart. She attended Central Catholic High School and St. Mary's University, both in San Antonio. She married Tony (Anthony) Alonzo, and his career took them to Albany, NY; Columbus, OH; the Washington, D.C., area; Puerto Rico; Arlington, Texas; back to Puerto Rico; and Santa Fe, NM, to name some of the places.

She then returned to San Antonio, where she lived with Rosa. Cora's second husband, Peter Wurth, was Swiss, so Cora moved to Switzerland for the five-plus years of their marriage. She returned to San Antonio to care for Rosa, who was ailing at that point. The friends she had made in Arlington, though, had become her dear extended family, and trips were made back and forth between San Antonio and Arlington.

On one of those occasions, a spark was lit between Cora and Herb. They married on March 5, 2016, and the rest... is history.

Cora is deeply missed by those who call her friend and who love her.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on August 29, 2026, at Wade Funeral Home and Crematory, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy., Arlington, TX 76013.
