Sandra Lee Scarborough, beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and poet, passed away from a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease on April 19, 2025, in Allen, Texas, one day before her 82nd birthday.
Born on April 20, 1943, in Fort Worth, Texas, Sandra was the cherished daughter of W.P. and Bertie Lee Record. From a young age, she exhibited a deep love for learning and creativity, traits that would shape her life and the lives of countless others.
Sandra earned a master’s degree in education and dedicated her career to nurturing young minds through her work with Mansfield ISD. A passionate and innovative educator, she was instrumental in founding the A.C.E. (Alternative Center for Education) program, a pioneering initiative that continues to impact students today. She was an active member of the Teachers Union and a respected voice in the educational community.
Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Weslie Scarborough; her two sons, Shannon Lee Scarborough and Shawn Alan Scarborough. She is survived by her loving daughter Holly Green; Daughter-in-law Kimberly Yvonne Lewis; and her treasured grandchildren Stephanie Broussard and husband Brandon Broussard, Anna Green, Emma Scarborough, Eryn Scarborough, and Adrianna Barrett; and great-grandchild Julian Barrett; and a legacy of compassion, strength, and dedication.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sandra found joy in life’s quiet moments. She was a gifted poet, a lover of the arts, and never far from a jigsaw puzzle in progress. Her gentle spirit, sharp wit, and boundless love will be remembered by all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate Sandra’s life will be held at Wade Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests plants to honor Sandra’s enduring love of nature and life.
Her story does not end with her passing—it lives on in every lesson she taught, every poem she wrote, and every life she touched.
Service will be held at a future date
