Ruth Ann Gerik

Ruth Ann Gerik, a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on June 23, 1947, in Lynn, Massachusetts, Ruth lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and unwavering love for her family and friends.

Ruth was a proud widow of John Lee Gerik, affectionately known as Buddy, who predeceased her in 2017. Together, they created a legacy of love that will forever resonate in the hearts of their family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gerik; her parents, Frank Sr. and Irlene Carpenter; her brother, Frank Carpenter Jr.; and sister, Linda Jackson.

Ruth is survived by her cherished daughter, Christi Evans, and her husband, Chad; her brothers, Walter Carpenter and Joe Carpenter; and her beloved grandchildren, Christian and Cassie.

Ruth had a distinguished career serving her country as a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, where her dedication and professionalism left an indelible mark. Following her military service, she inspired many as a lecturer in English and African American Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, nurturing the minds of countless students.

As we remember Ruth, we celebrate the joys she brought into our lives. She had a zest for life, often embracing adventure through her love of cruising. Her mornings were brightened by daily breakfasts at The Porch, where she enjoyed the company of friends and staff alike. Ruth also had a compassionate spirit, dedicating her time and love to rescuing senior dogs, giving them the care and attention they deserved.

A graveside service will take place on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 11am at DFW National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories, laughter, and stories that reflect the vibrant spirit of Ruth.

 Her spirit will continue to inspire us all, and her memory will forever be etched in our hearts. Rest in peace, Miss Ruth. Your light will continue to shine brightly in the lives you touched.
