Rusty Cole Briley, born October 11, 1984, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 11, 2026. His sudden and heartbreaking death has left an unimaginable emptiness in the lives of everyone who knew and loved him.
Rusty lit up every room he ever stepped foot in. He was the oldest of four children and loved his family deeply, especially his sweet momma, Tammy. He will be remembered for his big smile, his infectious energy, his love of baseball, and his passion for music. He almost always had music playing in his ear, knew nearly every song, and could usually tell you exactly which decade it came from. He loved playing the guitar and collecting sneakers, owning even more shoes than Angela—which was always a source of laughter between them.
Rusty earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from Stephen F. Austin State University, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. His years at SFA and the friendships and brotherhood he found through Sigma Chi remained a meaningful part of his life.
Rusty was also incredibly hardworking. As a top performer and six-time million-dollar writer at Mattress Firm, he knew more about mattresses than most people ever thought possible, and he took great pride in helping improve lives through better sleep.
Above everything else, Rusty was a devoted son, brother, husband, and father. He loved Angela and their beautiful daughter, Presley, beyond measure. Presley was the little girl they had hoped, prayed, and waited so long for. Being her father was one of the greatest joys of his life, and the love he had for her was unmistakable.
Rusty’s life ended far too soon, but the love, laughter, music, and memories he leaves behind will remain forever. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Angela; his daughter, Presley; his siblings; his extended family; his friends; coworkers; and every person fortunate enough to have known that unforgettable smile.
Rusty was preceded in death by his mother, Tammy Briley, and his father, Victor Briley.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Briley, and daughter, Presley; his grandmother, Carolyn “Granna” King; his sister, Leslie Byerly and husband Logan, and nephew Lincoln Byerly; his brother, Shelton Briley and wife Lindsay, and niece and nephew, Nova and Ronin Briley; his brother, Tucker Briley; and their dog, Barbie. He is also survived by his uncle, Kenny Chamberlain and wife Meredith; uncle Chris King and wife Paula; and numerous cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
