With deep sorrow and full hearts, we share the unexpected passing of Russell Marvin Johnston, who left us far too soon on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 46, in Arlington, Texas.
Born on May 31, 1979, in Panama City, Florida, Russell was the beloved son of Evelyn and Marvin Johnston. From his earliest years, Russell carried a joyful spirit, a deep well of compassion, and an unwavering sense of humor that brightened every room he entered.
He met the love of his life, Crystal, while attending Texas Wesleyan University. He used to say that he was the only one brave enough to ask her out because she was so beautiful she left everyone else speechless. From their very first date, Russell was certain she was “the one” — a truth he never let her forget.
Together, they built a beautiful life full of laughter, love, and unwavering devotion. Russell was a proud and present father to Jesse (20), Tatiana (17), and Chloe (15). He cherished each of them deeply and created memories they will hold for a lifetime — especially their monthly “Daddy-Daughter Dates,” where the girls picked the place, the plan, and the laughs.
Russell loved the simple joys: singing his heart out at karaoke (his signature being George Strait’s The Chair), playing disc golf, and morning coffee on the porch with Crystal while throwing the frisbee for their two loyal dogs, Athena and Tony.
A man of many talents, Russell’s baritone voice often surprised those who first heard it — powerful, operatic, and full of soul. He grew up loving choir, rodeo life, and the camaraderie of Boy Scouts, where he shared countless adventures with his oldest friend, Rowdy. He never lost that boyhood sense of wonder, and it showed in how he lived.
For the past six years, Russell was a devoted member of Tate Springs Church, where he served joyfully as the greeter for the children’s center. This was not just a role — it was a calling. He prided himself on knowing every child by name and would come home beaming with stories about high fives, big smiles, and sweet conversations. It was a ministry of love, and it brought him immense joy.
Professionally, Russell served as a Sales Director, but he always said that his most important work was at home — as a husband, a father, a brother, a son, and a friend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Crystal; his children Jesse, Tatiana, and Chloe; his parents, Evelyn and Marvin; his siblings, Michael, Courtney, and Eden; and lifelong friend Rowdy.
Russell lived with intention, led with kindness, and loved with everything he had. He will be missed more than words can express, but his legacy will live on — in the laughter of his children, the memories shared by his family, and every child’s face that lit up when they saw him on Sunday morning.
A celebration of Russell’s life will be held at Tate Springs Baptist Church on June 28th, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a smile with a child, a song from the heart, or a high five in Russell’s honor.
His life was a song — full of soul, joy, and unwavering love. And oh, how beautifully he sang it.
