Obituary

It is with deep love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Ross Hunter Allmon, who passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at the age of 97.

Born on March 11, 1929, in Industry, Pennsylvania, he lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication, humor, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps before pursuing higher education at Purdue University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in entomology.

Just three days after graduating, he began what would become a remarkable lifelong career with Hercules, Inc., where he devoted his entire professional life. Through hard work, integrity, and leadership, he rose to the position of Vice President of Sales for the company until his retirement.

In 1976, he met the love of his life, Carlene(Carla) Allmon. Together they built a life filled with joy, partnership, and shared passions. After her passing in 2022, he carried her memory with him every day.

He was known for his quick wit, charm, and his favorite saying, “Laughter is the best medicine.” His humor brought joy to countless lives, and he had a special way of winning people over with both his warmth and personality. He was also famously punctual—a true stickler for time—never late for anything, a trait that became one of his many endearing hallmarks. Most who knew him did not forget him; he had friends and professional acquaintances that spanned many decades. He had one particular customer from over 40 years ago that never forgot him helping them get credit for products they needed to keep their family business running that called him at least once a year to again thank him for his help in their success.

He lived a life of sobriety for over 60 years, a commitment he held with great pride and quiet strength. Along that journey, he offered guidance, encouragement, and support to many others seeking recovery, making a lasting difference in countless lives through his compassion, honesty, and example.

In 1991, he and Carlene moved from Wilmington, Delaware to Arlington, Texas, where they embraced a vibrant life together. They enjoyed genealogy, gardening, antique collecting, volunteering for their church, exercising regularly and taking various classes at Tarrant College, always eager to learn, explore new interests and meet new people.

He took great pride in his independence and was especially proud to have lived on his own and regularly attend the gym until the time of his passing.

He is survived by his loving children: Stuart Allmon (Teri), Gayle Smith (Larry), and Sarah Allmon; his grandchildren: Jennifer Throntveit (David), Kevin Smith (Brittany), Kristen Meyer (Zach), Hunter Allmon (Lexi), and Kyla Hensley (Kyle); along with 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and strength.

Services will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on April 24, 2026 a 1:15 pm.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.
