Ronald Clark "Ron" Murrell

Ronald Clark “Ron” Murrell, 81, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, in Grapevine, Texas. A man of deep faith, unwavering patriotism, and devotion to his family, Ron lived a life marked by service, love, and quiet strength.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy., Arlington, Texas 76013. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, October 17, 2025, at First Baptist Arlington, 301 S. Center St., Arlington, Texas 76010. He will be laid to rest next to his son, Gregg Murrell, at 10am on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington, Texas.

Born on December 20, 1943, in Abilene, Texas, Ron was the son of Joe and Annie Lea (Patterson) Murrell. He was raised in Southside Baptist Church, where the foundation of his strong Baptist faith was formed—a faith that guided him throughout his life.

Ron graduated from Arlington State College (now the University of Texas at Arlington), where he was a proud member of the ROTC program. He went on to serve his country with distinction, first in the United States Army, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and later in the Army National Guard, where he earned the rank of Major before retiring. His military service was a source of great pride, and his love for his country never wavered.

On September 3, 1966, Ron married the love of his life, Janet “Jan” Hooton, at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, love, and family union that endured for 59 beautiful years.

Ron earned a degree in engineering and went on to work for several oil and gas and technology companies, including the Western Company in Fort Worth, American Manufacturing, Dresser Industries, and Electrospace, which later became Raytheon in Dallas. He concluded his professional career as an engineer with DFW Airport, where he served for over 20 years, retiring with respect and admiration from his peers.

Outside of work, Ron found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid fan of TCU Football and Dallas Cowboys games, and he especially enjoyed fishing trips to Alaska with his cousins. One of his greatest delights was making the drive to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to cheer on his grandchildren at their soccer games—moments he treasured deeply.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ron cherished time with his family above all else. He was known for his quiet wisdom, steady presence, and deep love for those closest to him.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Janet “Jan” Murrell; his daughter, Stephanie Tedder and her husband, Thom; his sisters, JoAnn Johns and Janet Justice, and husband, Jim Johnson; his brother-in-law, Ken Hooton; his grandchildren, Trevor Tedder and wife, Tori, Blaine Tedder, and Lauren Caunitz and husband, Steven; and his great-granddaughter, Blair Tedder. He is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Annie Lea Murrell, and his beloved son, Gregg Murrell.

Ron will be remembered as a man who loved God, his family, and his country. His life was a testament to service, honor, and enduring love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
