Roberta Mae Hill Brouse, affectionately known as “Susie,” passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, at the home of her granddaughter, Tiffany Brooks-Smith.

Susie was born on July 28, 1922. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Herman Brouse; her Grandson Rusty Thomas Brouse, her parents, Harold M. Hill and Jesse Syrinda Brundige; and her siblings, Katherine, Delores (“Pickle”), William, and Harold Jr.

She is survived by her children, Judy Diane Riddle; Dan Thomas Brouse (Kaye); Chris Lynn Pickett (Robert); and Leigh Ann Taylor; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Susie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1943 and began her career at Elyria Memorial Hospital in Elyria, Ohio. She and Jack were married on February 14, 1946, following Jack’s return from service in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. In 1955, they moved to Arlington, Texas, where they spent the remainder of their sixty-nine years of marriage until Jack’s passing on February 18, 2015. Susie will be interred beside him at the Dallas–Fort Worth National Veterans Cemetery.

Susie devoted her life to caring for others. She was a devout Christian and a lifelong member of Aldersgate Methodist Church in Arlington. She also gave decades of service to her community, spending twenty years on the Board of the Circle T Girl Scouts and fifty years as a member of the Aeronautical Engineering Wives Club. Susie and Jack were members of the Short Wing Piper club, OX5, Antique Airplane Association, and attended the annual reunions of his Marine VMF 422 squadron.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Judes, Girl Scouts of America or any organization that benefits children.
