Obituary

Robert Clayton Conn, 83, of Mansfield, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 25 after a period of declining health.

Robert was born on February 7, 1942, in Tyler, Texas, to Sam and Dean Conn of Mexia, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sherilyn, and by his sisters, Beverly and Sammie.

He is survived by his sons, Clay Conn and Chad Conn, and their wives, Kat Conn and Sherri Conn. He dearly loved and cherished his five grandchildren: Parker, Kaylor, Chris, CJ, and Karys.

Robert was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and had been a member of Lake Arlington Baptist Church since 1980. He played football at Arlington State College (now the University of Texas at Arlington), where he met the love of his life, Sherilyn. He spent his career in textile sales and, together with Sherilyn, built a long, loving life surrounded by family and friends in Arlington, where they had made their home since 1965.

Robert was a man of deep faith, quiet generosity, and unwavering moral character. He often helped people who had very little and rarely spoke of it. His family remembers him delivering Christmas gifts to families in need while dressed as Santa Claus and picking up a stranded family on the side of the road — later helping the young father find work while supporting the family until he did. Robert never spoke of these events or sought accolades, but they were glimpses of who he truly was when no one else was watching.

Robert will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his gentle nature, and — most of all — as an extraordinary leader of a family that deeply loved and adored him.

Plans to honor Robert have not yet been finalized and will be announced at a later time.
