Ricky Dale Hancock, loved son, brother, husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend passed away in a Dallas hospital after battling a lengthy very serious health issue on October 27, 2025.
Born on September 1, 1952, in Clovis, New Mexico to his devoted mother, Billie Joy Hancock, he was raised in Midland, Texas. Ricky joined the Army in 1968, served 14 years, becoming a Staff Sergeant before leaving the military. After the Army, he drove oil field tanker trucks until his retirement.
He is survived by his sons, Richard and Ben Hancock, Grandson Kaleb Allen Hancock, his wife Brie and daughter Ellie May, and Grandson Elijah William Hancock and his life partner, Hannah Chasteen. Ricky also leaves behind his beloved sisters, Vicky Hendrickson and Margaret Robinson, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ricky was proceeded in death by his wife of 49 years, Brenda Kay Hancock, who passed July 4, 2021.
As a kid (and as an adult too), Ricky enjoyed pulling pranks on his family and friends. He always enjoyed making everyone laugh and was really good at it. He loved fishing, whether from his boat, or from a chair on the shore. He enjoyed woodworking, riding his motorcycle through the countryside and camping. He loved sitting in the back yard, soaking up the sun rays while drinking cups of coffee, sometimes with his “pal” Bones (who was a party to many of his pranks – if you know, you know). He often enjoyed playing a friendly game of cards or chess, or a mean game of dominoes. And he always loved spending time with his family and friends!
Most of all, Ricky loved the Lord. He was always listening to old country hymns, either on the radio, or his record player or his phone.
Ricky will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his fun spirit and his love of life, even during the difficult times. Sometimes he was stubborn (it’s a family trait), yet he was still an inspiration to us all, as he continued to pull pranks, gave his home health nurses a run for their money, sharing his kindness and joy through it all. He is deeply missed, but we are comforted knowing how much he was love and that he is now fully healed and at rest with our Savior.
A memorial service will be held at Wade Funeral Home Chapel, in Arlington TX, on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 11am. The service will be followed by a military presentation at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, in Dallas, at 1:15pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Fisher House, supporting military families of Veterans that are in the hospital and need a place to stay, a home away from home, or to the American Heart Association, in Ricky’s honor.
