Raymond was born on May 20, 1963, to John and Mary Vergunst at Fort Hood Military Base in Temple, Texas. Raised in a military family, his early years were shaped by resilience and adaptability before his family eventually settled in Illinois, where he spent much of his childhood.

In his twenties, Raymond returned to Texas, choosing to make Arlington his permanent home. There, he built a life defined by hard work, independence, and devotion to those he loved. Over the years, he worked in a variety of roles, including as a security guard, mechanic, and parts delivery driver, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike for his strong work ethic and reliability.

Raymond had a deep love for Texas and was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his team. He will be remembered for his straightforward nature, his loyalty, and the quiet strength he showed throughout his life, especially during his illness.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Vergunst.

Raymond is survived by his loving mother, Mary Vergunst; his sister, Nancy (Bob) Curry; his son, Collin Vergunst; and his bonus daughter, Aspen (Dillon) Gumfory. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.

Raymond’s life was one of perseverance, dedication, and love for family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew him.
