Peggie Jean Matthews, born on March 4, 1936, in Taylorsville, Mississippi, peacefully passed away on August 2, 2026, in Arlington, Texas. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, a talented hairdresser, and an elegant presence in the lives of all who knew her.
Peggies love for her family were only second to her love for Jesus Christ. Her faith was lived out, as she would share it with anyone who would listen. Her mission field was as close as next door to where she witnessed to a large Gypsy family over the years and eventually some of those family members started large churches in different cities throughout Texas and reached as far as the mission field in Russia and everywhere in between. She passed with the peace and the assurance of where she was going and who she wanted to see face to face.
Peggie's journey through life was marked by her artistic flair and her unwavering commitment to her family. She married James Thomas Matthews Jr., who predeceased her in May 2024. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. Peggie was a steadfast supporter, always ensuring those around her felt beautiful, both inside and out. Her years as a hairdresser allowed her to touch many lives, offering a welcoming smile and a crafting hand to those who sat in her chair.
Her love for shopping and her passion for antiques reflected her joyful spirit and her appreciation for the unique treasures life has to offer. Peggie took great pride in always looking her best when out in public, radiating grace and elegance.
Peggie is survived by her sons, James "Jay" Matthews and his wife, Abby, Ron Jones and his wife Martha as well as her cherished grandchildren, Joshua, Ella and Maddison who will carry on her memory with love and affection.
Funeral services will be held in Arlington, Texas at Wade Funeral Home, August the 29th at 10AM in honor of Peggie's life and legacy. We are inviting family and friends to gather and celebrate the beauty of her spirit and the warmth of her love.
Peggie Jean Matthews will be dearly missed, but her legacy of kindness, beauty, and unwavering love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, Peggie.
