Patrick "Pat" A. Probst

Patrick "Pat" August Probst, age 89, passed away peacefully in Arlington, Texas.

Pat was born on January 13, 1937, in Brady, Texas, to Bernice (Kirkpatrick) and Ernest Probst. He graduated from high school in 1955 and, with determination and hope for his future, traveled to Arlington in search of work. After returning home, he received a phone call from General Motors asking him to report to Arlington the very next day to begin what would become a remarkable 36-year career with the company.

One of Pat's favorite stories reflected the determination that defined his life. As his father drove him to the bus station in Brownwood, Texas, they missed the bus that was to take him back to Arlington. Unwilling to let the opportunity slip away, Pat caught the next freight train out of town, holding his suitcase in one hand and the side of the train car with the other. It was a bold beginning to a lifetime of perseverance, hard work, and dedication. Once Pat set his mind to something, he pursued it with unwavering commitment.

Pat proudly served his country in the United States Army before dedicating 36 years of service to General Motors in Arlington, where he built not only a successful career but also lasting friendships.

A man of deep faith, Pat was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church and later a charter member of Northwest Baptist Church, where he faithfully worshiped and served for many years.

Pat found joy in both adventure and the simple pleasures of life. He loved traveling the world, always eager to experience new places and cultures. At home, he took great pride in growing tomatoes, tending his garden with the same care and dedication he brought to every aspect of his life.

Pat will be remembered for his strong work ethic, adventurous spirit, steadfast faith, and the determination that carried him through every chapter of his life. His example of perseverance and commitment continues to inspire all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his step son, Barry Jones; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pat was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sarah Jo Lain Probst; 1 brother; and 2 sisters.

Pat will be interred at Bethel Cemetery, Katemcy, Texas, on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 2pm.
