Nina Stacey Messer

June 21, 1934 — September 28, 2026

Arlington, Texas

Nina Stacey Messer, 92, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026. She was born on June 21, 1934, in Niagara Falls, New York, to Frederick Stacey and Fern Gribben.

Nina devoted much of her life to her family and raised four daughters. She is survived by her daughters Vicky (Rick) Reed, Vonnie Morgan (Bruce Cox), and Valarie (Bill) Shea; her grandchildren Catina Reed, Chris Reed, Crystal Reed, Joshua Morgan, Kelly Shea, and Kara Shea; her great-grandson, Jayce Desplanches; and her brother, Mike Cathcart.

Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar B. Messer; her daughter, Vanesa Hampton; and her sister, Linda Ruth. She is now reunited in eternity with family and friends she has missed all these years.

Nina and Delmar were married for 73 years. Together, for 30 years, they navigated the challenges and joys of military life, moving across the nation—from New York to California, Tennessee to Alaska, and finally settled in Texas. With each move, Nina took on the work of deftly organizing and settling the family into a new home and a new community.

Caring for children was a passion in Nina’s life. For many years, she ran a daycare from her home, caring for many children in addition to raising her own family. As Nina’s “kids”, as she referred to them, aged out of daycare, many would visit “Miss Nina” for years after because she was such an influence in their lives. Nina was also an active volunteer at her church, bringing joy to children’s programs and sharing her love for singing. Around the house, Nina loved listening to Gospel music as she meticulously cleaned her home.

Nina lived a long life centered around family, children, church, and the many communities she called home. Her family will remember the years they shared with her and the many ways her life became part of their own.

Nina’s spirit will forever resonate in the love she sowed and the memories she created. As we reflect on her ninety-two remarkable years, we rejoice in the kindness she shared and the indelible mark she left on so many lives.

A service for Nina will be held on October 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nina’s name to Mission Arlington, an organization that was close to her heart.
