Mildred Lavon Stephenson

Mildred Lavon Stephenson, age 83, of Arlington, Texas, passed from this life to her eternal Heavenly home on Thursday, September 17, 2026, following a sudden inoperable brain hemorrhage. She was surrounded by her close loved ones as she took her final breaths in the Intensive Care Unit of Medical City Arlington.
Lavon, as she was always known, was born in Levelland, Texas, on June 25, 1943. Lavon grew up in Holdenville, Oklahoma, and moved to Texas in 1963 to attend college. She held degrees from Abilene Christian College and Texas Tech University. After graduation she moved to Arlington to begin a life-long career in education, serving the youth in Arlington, Texas, with teaching positions at Goodman Elementary, Rankin Elementary, and as a Diagnostician at Arlington Classics Academy.
She was a member of the North Davis Church of Christ in Arlington, Texas, and later, an active faithful member of The Hills Church in North Richland Hills, Texas. She loved her Church activities and made many life-long friendships in her various Bible classes.
Lavon enjoyed traveling, and made several trips and cruises with her friends to many parts of the globe. She enjoyed canasta game nights with her friends, and was part of an adopted family in Arlington with whom she shared many wonderful parties, weekend get-aways, holiday celebrations, and family times. Lavon was considered to be a "sister" to Kathy Strong and Karen Dunnahoe, and an aunt to the several children of her adopted family. She was always included in family activities and she added a special joy and love to every event - not to mention her amazing corn dip recipe and delicious food she always shared.
Lavon was loved and respected by her neighbors who provided much appreciated help and support as she reached the age of limited physical abilities. Through all of her medical challenges and personal pain, she always moved forward with a strong will and innate determination to overcome any challenge she faced, and she brought joy and fellowship to all of her close friends and associates.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Haskell Stephenson of Atwood, Oklahoma, and her brother Harold Ray Stephenson and wife Betty of Atwood, Oklahoma. She is survived by several relatives in Oklahoma.
Her earthly body was cremated by Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas, and several groups of family and friends gathered to remember her life and the associations she shared. Final family services will be held in Oklahoma, where she was born.
