Obituary

Melissa Jane Darrow (née Hill), 70, of Arlington, Texas, passed peacefully on June 12, 2026 at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 23, 1956, Melissa was the beloved daughter of Arva Jane Stewart Hill (Jane Hill) and Alvin M. Hill Jr. She grew up immersed in the rich storytelling tradition of her mother Jane, a longtime member of the Arlington Story League and National Story League, while her father Alvin wove tales of dragons and worlds unknown.

Melissa carried that golden thread forward with warmth, humor, and quiet strength. She was a proud graduate of Mansfield Business School, served in the U.S. Army, and was active for many years with the First United Methodist Church, including participating in the Walk to Emmaus. She enjoyed a long career selling Tupperware, bringing joy to countless home parties.

Above all, she loved to create — crafting, crocheting, and beadwork — and cherished time in the garden tending wildflowers, just as her mother had done. She is survived by her husband Mark Darrow, her children Morgan Wood, Chip Wood, Katie Nixon, and Amanda Hanks, and a large, loving group of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.

She was preceded in death by her firstborn son Raymond.

She leaves behind a rich tapestry of family history, handwritten poems, and the enduring spirit of storytelling passed down through generations. Her greatest legacy was the love she poured into her family and the stories she helped keep alive.

She is now reunited with her parents Jane and Alvin and her son Raymond, dancing underneath a sky painted gold, embracing the light with her loved ones, young and old.
