Mary "Gale" Walsh

Mary Gale Walsh, age 82, was called to her eternal home on August 3, 2026, after a long, quiet battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, kindness, laughter, creativity, and devotion to her family, friends, and beloved pets.

Mary “Gale” was born in Rockford, IL, on January 22, 1944, to Vernon and Frances Gilmore. She was raised with her three brothers in Pecatonica, IL, where she attended school and worked on the family’s dairy farm. After graduating from high school, the family moved to Roswell, NM, where she would meet the love of her life, Jack Walsh, who was stationed at Walker Air Force Base. Jack and Gale were married on June 27, 1964, and moved to Jack’s native Ohio where they later welcomed two children, Shawn and Robyn. Jack’s job took the family to many states throughout the years, and she quickly made cherished friendships in every location. She loved being home with her children during their younger years, and later became an executive assistant at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, TX, and Dixie Narco, in Aiken, SC.

Gale was a devoted wife, mom, and Gramma to her grandchildren. Never one to sit still, she loved quilting, reading, baking cookies and pies, traveling, antiquing, attending her grandchildren's many activities, visiting with friends, daily walks with her dogs, and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jack Walsh, and her brother, Charlie Gilmore of Houston, TX. She is survived by her children Shawn (Lisa) Walsh of Arlington, TX, and Robyn Walsh of Benbrook, TX; her grandchildren, Davis (Mackenzie) Walsh, McKendry (Jared) Taylor, and Jackson Walsh-Speake; her great-grandson, Cal Walsh; her brothers, Tom Gilmore of Boise, ID, Johnny (Joanie) Gilmore of Roswell, NM, and sister-in-law Ellen Gilmore of Houston, TX.

The family is eternally grateful to her caregivers at Sparks Assisted Living and Freedom Hospice for the care and comfort they provided to her over the last four and a half years.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Faith Lutheran Church, 4551 Southwest Blvd, Fort Worth, TX 76116. 

There will be a reception and visitation with family in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service. 

She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11:00 am.
