Mary Jane Smith

Mary Jane Mechler Smith, age 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025. She was born on December 24, 1926, in Castroville, Texas, to Albert and Clara (Ehlinger) Mechler.

Mary was raised on the family farm in Castroville and later married Oscar J. Smith of Lytle, Texas, on March 29, 1946. She dedicated 30 years of service in product support at Bell Helicopter. A passionate traveler, Mary loved exploring the world, and in quieter moments, found joy in the art of crocheting.

She is survived by her sons Alan Smith (Regina), Michael Smith (Vicki), and Gary Smith (Pam); three granddaughters; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar Smith; her son, Douglas Smith; her brothers, Albert and George Mechler; and her sister, Ann Gooch.
