Mary Katherine Morris, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, in Arlington, Texas. She was 68 years old.
Mary was born on October 5, 1956, at the U.S. Army Base in Würzburg, Germany, to Leonard and Patricia Ann Brown. From the very beginning, her life was marked by strength, independence, and a deep sense of compassion—qualities that would define her journey and inspire those around her.
Raised in Texas, Mary graduated from Arlington High School and later attended Abilene Christian University. She built a meaningful life rooted in both entrepreneurial spirit and service to others. In the early 1990s, she co-owned two local businesses in Arlington: Fresh off the Press and The Old Pro Sports Bar and Grill, where she created not only community gathering places but lasting memories. Later, she continued her career as a dedicated sales representative for The Furniture King in Carbondale, Illinois, where she was known for her warmth, honesty, and tenacity.
Mary shared her life with her loving husband, Jack Morris, until his passing in 2019. Together they raised four boys —Zachary and Sarah Morris, Brodie Morris, Casey and Cassie Morris, and Taylor Morris—instilling in them the values of integrity, resilience, and love. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Mary is also survived by her siblings: Debbie Rigdon, and Mike Brown, whose bonds of family remained strong through the years. She is preceded in death by her brother Baylor Brown who passed on November 30, 2023.
Though her passing leaves a deep void, Mary’s life was one of quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and gentle kindness. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she cherished, and the values she passed on.
Per Mary Katherine’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Survivor Empowerment Center in Carbondale, IL—a cause Mary deeply believed in and supported.
She will be missed more than words can express, and remembered with love by all who knew her.
