Mary Ellen Riley Clothier, 94, of Mansfield, Texas, peacefully passed away on October 2, 2025 (the Catholic feast of the Guardian Angels), surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 6, 1931, in Winona, Minnesota, her life was a reflection of love, devotion, and unwavering strength.
A beloved homemaker and the heart of her family, Mary also managed a family business, Command Performance, a hairstyling franchise, with grace and commitment. She created a home filled with warmth, love, and memorable meals, lamb chops and casseroles drawing family and friends together. A woman of fine taste, she enjoyed the elegance of Chanel Mademoiselle, cherished classic films, and found joy in home decorating and antiquing.
Her Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Mary was a cherished member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arlington, Texas. She was also an active participant at St. Rita's Church in Fort Worth from the 1960’s to 1990’s. Her deep devotion to the Roman Catholic Church was a foundation of strength and comfort for her, and it shaped her generous and compassionate nature.
Music was another great love of Mary’s, she found solace and joy in the classic tunes of Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, and Johnny Mathis. Her love for life extended beyond her faith, and she reveled in the joy of family vacations to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and the East Coast, treasuring every moment spent with loved ones.
Known for her feisty spirit and determined heart, Mary always put the needs of others before her own. She was a true matriarch, wise, fiercely protective of her family, and nurturing to all who knew her. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and resilience, that touched the lives of her siblings Bobbie, Pat, and Phil, and many other extended family members and cherished friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Richard Clothier, and her parents, Raymond and Barbara Riley.
She is survived by her brother Phil, and her sister-in-law Kitty Bagby. She also leaves behind her children, grandchildren, and numerous extended family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Mary will be dearly missed; and her memory will remain in the hearts of all who loved her. As we say goodbye, we find comfort in the memory of her hand gently in ours, and knowing she is now our guardian angel, watching over us.
