Marvin T. Dunn, Jr., 93 passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, in Mansfield, Texas. Born on May 4, 1931, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Marvin T. Dunn, Sr. and Stella Mae (Darden) Dunn, Marvin's life was marked by service, strength, and a deep devotion to family.
At the age of two, Marvin's family relocated to Paris, Texas, where he later attended and graduated from Delmar High School. It was there that he first crossed paths with Jo Ann Morris - she was a freshman, he was a senior - and though their story didn't begin there, it was the start of a lifelong connection.
In 1950, Marvin moved to Odessa to work in the oil fields before enrolling at Paris Junior College. As the Korean War intensified, Marvin answered the call to serve and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps along with two close friends. In 1951, he was deployed to Korea, where he faced the harsh realities of combat. Wounded in action, he received the Purple Heart and numerous other commendations, a testament to his courage and sacrifice. Marvin remained a proud Marine and Korean War veteran for the rest of his life, representing his service with honor and humility.
After the war, Marvin reunited with Jo Ann, and in 1952, they married - beginning a love story that spanned more than six decades. Together, they raised two daughters, Andra and Julie, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Jo Ann preceded Marvin in death in 2015, but the strength of their bond endured.
Marvin pursued his passion for education, earning a Master's degree and dedicating 34 years to the Dallas Independent School District. As a teacher, administrator, and principal, he touched countless lives with his wisdom, patience, and belief in the potential of every student.
A life long sports fan, Marvin cheered for the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and SMU. He loved the energy of the horse track and the quiet challenge of a round of golf. More than anything, he loved his family - fiercely, proudly, and without condition.
Marvin T. Dunn, Jr. leaves behind a legacy of service, loyalty, and deep love. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, a decorated Marine, and an educator who believed in making a difference.
He is survived by his daughters, Andra Dixon and husband Lynn and Julie Rogers; grandchildren, Taylor Stovall, Preston Stovall, Whitney Rogers, Travis Rogers; step grandchildren, Tyler Dixon and wife Amber, McKenzie Dixon and husband Matthew, and three bonus great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann Dunn, his parents, two siblings and a granddaughter, Samantha Alyce Rogers.
In lieu of flowers donations can sent to the Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation, 950 North Washington St. STE 220, Alexandria, VA 22314.
