Martha was born on May 15, 1930, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Joseph R. and Johnnie Beauton Wiser Wilson. She graduated from Little Rock Central High School and attended Little Rock Junior College before transferring to Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas, where she met her husband, Hugh Miller Brown. They married on August 27, 1954, in Fort Worth, Texas, and shared 49 years of marriage until Hugh’s passing on May 30, 2004, just three months shy of their 50th anniversary.
In 1964, Martha and Hugh moved to Arlington, where both worked for the Arlington ISD. Martha began as a secretary at the Central Office, later helping to open the library at Pope Elementary. She then transferred to Bailey Junior High as the principal's secretary, where she worked for many years. After 28 years of dedicated service, Martha retired from AISD.
Family was at the heart of Martha's life, and she took great joy in attending her grandchildren's sporting events, traveling often to support them. Her grandchildren were truly the “apple of her eye,” and she loved her entire family dearly. Martha was an active member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ and volunteered with Hearts and Hands, dedicating her time to helping those in need. She was known for her sharp mind and her love for people, which she maintained until the very end.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Hugh, and their daughter, Carol.
She is survived by her two sisters, Pat Link of Lafayette, LA, and Margaret Beadles (husband Wayne) of Clarendon, AR; her two sons, Steve Brown (wife Kathy) and Gerald Brown (wife Nancy); her grandchildren, Stephanie Layton (husband David), Matthew Brown and Chrissy, Michael Brown (wife Alexis), Kyle Brown (wife Leah), Chase Brown (wife Krista), Garrett McCaleb, and Colby McCaleb; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Cedar Bluff Assisted Living in Mansfield, TX, and Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care.
