Marie was born January 27, 1933 in Rogers, Arkansas to Ruth Ann Graham Carter and Louis Oliver Carter. After completing her education in Arkansas, she attended business school in Kansas City, Missouri. Marie married John Pitts in 1954 and they shared 55 years of love and laughter until his death in 2009. John was the love of her life and she adored being his wife and the mother to their daughter, Teresa.
Marie was a faithful member of the North Davis Church of Christ in Arlington, Texas for 60 years. She taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Sojourners Bible Class. She also volunteered at Mission Printing and Hearts and Hands, both outreach missions of the church. Marie was also very active in her community. She was a Life Member of the Arlington Women's Club, a member of the Arlington Arts League, the Encore Club of Arlington, the Republican Women of Arlington, and the Magnolia Lunch Group. She was a former member of The Woman's Club of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Lecture Foundation.
Marie's priorities in life were her faith, her family, her community and her country, which she loved so much. She had a great appreciation for God's beautiful creation and His love and care for us. Marie was a woman who lived her life with great conviction, honor and integrity. She lived well and loved to laugh with her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, an outstanding mother and her grandchildren were the light of her life. In the past four years, her six great-grandchildren were, as she described, "the icing on the cake". She was so grateful that God allowed her to meet her great-grandchildren. Her steadfast nature, her generous heart and her fierce love will be greatly missed.
Her parents, two sisters, three brothers, her infant daughter, Patricia Ann Pitts, and her beloved husband, John, preceded her in death.
Survivors: Marie is survived by her daughter, Teresa Pitts Brownlie, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Caroline Rodgers and her husband Crawford; Katherine Broyles and her husband Ben; and Carter Brownlie. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Mary Carter Broyles, Sarah Frances Rodgers, Banks Broyles, Cass Rodgers, Clara Broyles, and Smith Rodgers; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
