Marie Carter

Marie Carter beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was called home by her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 26, 2024.

Marie was born on September 2, 1946, in Jackson, Mississippi to Malcolm and Jewel Massey. She grew up in Jackson and after high school she eventually went to work for Harper Supply. It was at Harper Supply where she met the love of her life, HL. The two were married in 1970 and had one daughter, Kristi. HL’s job transferred them from Mississippi to Louisiana and eventually to Arlington, Texas where Marie worked as a bookkeeper for 20 years in the printing industry until she retired in 2007.

Marie loved being married to her best friend HL, and the two of them were rarely seen without one another. She adored Kristi and was always so proud of her. When Bruce and Kristi started their family, Gran became a name she treasured greatly. She was “the best” at everything she did, and we will forever be grateful to call her ours. Her family meant the world to her, and she was always at sporting events, dance recitals or whatever else her family was involved in.

Marie loved to be on the go, and she enjoyed traveling with HL, family, and friends. She always looked forward to vacationing with HL, Kristi, Bruce, Brandon Carter and Abby every summer. Some of her favorite spots were Destin and Gatlinburg which were visited often. Marie also enjoyed working in her yard and playing games, especially cards.

Marie was a long-time member of South Oaks Baptist Church, now Fielder South Oaks. She enjoyed many years of volunteering and serving in all areas of her church. She had to have been greeted with “well done good and faithful servant”. Marie loved the Lord wholeheartedly. Her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. This was a promise she claimed every day.

Marie is survived by her husband of 54 years HL, daughter Kristi and her husband Bruce, grandson Brandon and his wife Andrea, grandson Carter and granddaughter Abby. She is also survived by a sister and a brother, nieces and nephews and many great friends.

Marie is preceded in death by her mother, father, and two brothers.
