Obituary

In Loving Memory of Margie Jean Rodgers March 6, 1953 – July 23rd, 2026

With grateful hearts for a life beautifully lived and faith unwavering, we celebrate the homegoing of Margie Jean Rodgers, who entered the presence of her Savior on July 23rd, 2026, after a life devoted to Christ, her family, and serving others with kindness and joy.

Margie was born on March 6, 1953, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, to her loving parents, John and Marie Watson. She was raised with strong Christian values that shaped her: she would become a faithful servant, devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, loyal friend, and an encouragement to all who knew her.

One of God's sweetest stories was written in the love of Margie and John Rodgers. Though they were both born in Havre de Grace Memorial Hospital, they did not meet until twenty-two years later while working at contracting division at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Their very first date was a Jewish wedding, where Margie met John's parents. The rest, as they say, is history. Together they built a marriage rooted in love, laughter, faith, and steadfast commitment, creating a home filled with warmth and grace.

Margie was the devoted wife of John, the proud and loving mother of Devin, and a treasured sister to Shirley Surrett. Her family was her greatest earthly blessing, and she faithfully loved and supported them throughout her life.

She built a successful career as an executive secretary with Black + Decker, American Airlines, and later at the University of Texas at Arlington. She was known for her exceptional work ethic, professionalism, and dedication. Her excellence was recognized when she received the American Airlines Outstanding Employee Award for 1999 and for 2000. Whether at work or at home, Margie was a "get the job done" kind of person—dependable, organized, and committed to giving her very best in everything she did.

Her greatest passion, however, was serving the Lord. As a young woman, Margie traveled throughout the United States and as far as New Zealand with Agape, a Christian musical drama ministry, sharing the Gospel through music and testimony. That love for worship never faded. She faithfully sang in church choirs throughout her life, lifting her voice in praise to her savior, Jesus Christ who she loved most.

Margie grew up at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Bel Air, Maryland, helping with the beloved "Living Christmas Tree," a remarkable 30-foot steel and wooden structure featuring one hundred singers, beautifully decorated and illuminated to proclaim the message of Christ's birth. She considered it a privilege to use her gifts in service to the Lord.

Beyond her many acts of service, Margie found joy in life's simple blessings. She loved flower gardening, creating beautiful floral arrangements in silk and as well as real flowers, cooking delicious meals for those she loved, needlepoint, and spending time with her cherished cats. She had a gift for making both homes and hearts feel beautiful.

To know Margie was to know genuine warmth. She greeted people with an inviting smile and an infectious laugh that could brighten even the darkest day. She was caring and compassionate, always quick to encourage someone in need. At the same time, she possessed remarkable strength, determination, and practical wisdom.

Above all, Margie's life reflected her faith in Jesus Christ. She trusted Him, served Him, sang His praises, and lived each day with the quiet confidence that this world was not her final home. Though her family and friends grieve her absence, they rejoice in the promise of the Gospel—that because Christ lives, those who place their faith in Him will live also. They find comfort in knowing Margie has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," and now rests forever in the presence of her Lord.

Margie's beautiful legacy of faith, love, service, laughter, and unwavering devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her beloved husband, John Rodgers; her loving son, Devin Rodgers; her sister, Shirley Surrett; her nieces Ashley Fifer and Hillary Houtz; along with extended family, dear friends, and countless brothers and sisters in Christ whose lives she touched through her kindness and faithful witness.

Margie, you are in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Mission Arlington or the Alzheimer's Association , two organizations that reflect Margie's heart for serving others and bringing hope to those in need.

Service information will be announced by the family at a later time.
