Margaret “Betsy” Slater, 88, of Bedford, TX passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Graveside service will be held at the Milford cemetery at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.
Betsy was born on September 17, 1935 in Maypearl, TX to Perry Ector Wood II and Iva Lucille (Griffith) Wood. She was raised in Milford, was a graduate of Milford High School & received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from North Texas State. Betsy met her husband, W.B. “Dub” Slater Jr. at North Texas State. After marrying, they moved from Ft Worth to Austin before ultimately relocating to San Diego, CA in 1968 where they raised their children. They returned to Texas upon retirement in 1992.
Betsy worked as a secretary and office manager throughout her life and volunteered for several organizations. She was a member of the Dawson Church of Christ. Betsy enjoyed reading, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren and was a fiercely competitive bowler.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, brother and husband. She is survived by son Kevin Slater of North Richland Hills; daughter Kristen Rogers of North Richland Hills; grandson Jeremy Bullington of Bedford; granddaughters Briel Hernandez of Honolulu, Hawaii; Alexis Slater of Ramona, California, and Madelyn Rogers of Hot Springs, Arkansas; great grandchildren Gracie Hernandez, Gia Hernandez, Gabriela Hernandez and Ariana Grambeck; sister-in-law Marylee Evans and her husband Rush Evans II of Houston; and nephews John Vossler III and Rush Evans III of Houston, Texas.
