Mrs. Lexie R. Hopkins was born on August 2, 1958, in Hinds County, Mississippi, to the late Mathew Cooper and Lorene Thompson. She departed this earthly life on October 23, 2026.
Lexie confessed her faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at Mt. Olive First Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She was a proud retired veteran who honorably served more than 20 years in the United States Army. A loving and faithful wife, mother, mother-in-love, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Lexie never missed an opportunity to teach and guide her children, grandchildren, and all those she encountered toward a relationship with Jesus Christ.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 44 years, Ernest E. Hopkins Jr.; her daughters, Jaqinta “Kita” (Michael) Hawkins of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Antonia “Tonya” (Antwan) Crutcher of Mansfield, Texas; five cherished grandchildren, Alexa, Makayla, Mary-Christine, Antwan Jr., and Antonio; one sister, Ethel Smith of Killeen, Texas; and four brothers, Parker (Diane) Cooper of Flora, Mississippi, William (Saundra) Cooper of Jackson, Mississippi, Ezekiel Cooper of Stockbridge, Georgia, and Bennie Cooper of Dallas, Texas.
She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Penny Cooper, Mary Hopkins, and Vanessa (Charles) Shaw of Athens, Georgia; brother-in-law, Victor (Tiffeny) Hopkins of Lawrenceville, Georgia; her beloved family member, Betty C. Hopkins of Gainesville, Georgia, whom she affectionately called “Mother”; her devoted lifelong friends, Gloria Williams of Savannah, Georgia, and Greg Williams of Miami, Florida; and a host of beloved friends that would take a lifetime to list.
Lexie was preceded in death by her father, Mathew Cooper Sr.; her mother, Lorene Thompson; her sisters, Mary Cooper and Martha Cooper; her brothers, Matthew (Penny) Cooper, Paul Cooper, and John Cooper; her grandfather, Levi Cooper; and her aunts, Julia and Claudia Mae Cooper.
May her legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
Lexie Roygene Hopkins
