In Loving Memory of Lawrence Morris Cheesman
February 23, 1938 – May 23, 2025
Lawrence Morris Cheesman, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old.
Born on February 23, 1938, in New York, New York, Lawrence was the beloved son of Hugh and Helen Cheesman. He grew up in the Bronx and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School for Boys, a foundation that helped shape his strong Catholic faith.
Lawrence dedicated his professional life to Equitable Life Insurance Company, where he served as a director. Additionally, he served his community and church as a member of the Eucharistic Ministry and the Men’s Club at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Arlington, Texas.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 62 years, Joan Phyllis Cheesman; his brother, Lee Cheesman; and his sister-in-law, Virginia Bekassy. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in the lives of those who survive him: his sister Lois Lazarczyk and husband Stan, his children Geralyn Gorshing and husband Butch, Larry Cheesman and wife Michele, Michael Cheesman and wife Debbie, Kevin Cheesman and wife Leslie Wyatt and Joan Olson and husband Tim.
He was a proud grandfather to Brian Cheesman, Chris Cheesman, Ashley Daza and husband Andres, Colin Cheesman and wife CC, Scott Cheesman, Kelley Cheesman, Nick Cheesman, Kayla Nicasio and husband Jose, Connor Olson, and Carter Olson. He also delighted in the next generation, his great-grandchildren: Luca Daza, Nico Daza, Braxton Nicasio, Canon Nicasio and Ashton Nicasio.
Lawrence’s greatest joy was his family. He was their biggest fan—whether from the sidelines of a game or in the quiet moments at home, his presence was a source of constant love and support. His favorite pastime was watching his children and grandchildren compete in their sporting events, always cheering them on with unmatched pride.
Lawrence will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his warm heart, and his deep devotion to those he loved. His legacy of kindness, commitment, and love for family will live on in all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A funeral Mass celebrating Lawrence’s life will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Arlington. In lieu of flowers, please donate in the name of Lawrence Cheesman to the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.
