Kathryn (York) Pruitt went to her eternal heavenly home to be with her Savior and the other redeemed saints on August 2, 2026.

Kathryn was born as Kathryn Jean Ward on November 19, 1931, in Montalba, Texas, and grew up in Montalba, Tennessee Colony, and Palestine, Texas. Kathryn was a 1949 graduate of Palestine High School and went on to study at Nixon Business College in Palestine. After earning her business college diploma, she worked in the title company located in the Anderson County, Texas, Courthouse until 1955 when she moved with her family to Ely, Nevada, where her father pastored First Baptist Church of Ely.

Upon arriving in Ely, she met Donald (Don) Sanford York from Snyder, Texas. Don and Kathryn married on July 16, 1955, in Ely, and began their married life in Fernley, Nevada, where Don was on the faculty of the University of Nevada as an agriculture extension agent in Lyon County. While living in Fernley, Don and Kathryn welcomed two daughters into their family, Donna and Denise.

Don and Kathryn moved to Reno, Nevada, in 1960 when Don became a real estate broker. They continued to live in the Reno area until Don’s death in 1981.

Kathryn married James (Jim) Stollie Pruitt, Jr. in 1984, and they continued to live in Kathryn’s home in the Silver Knolls development north of Reno until Jim’s death in 2017, at which time Kathryn moved to Arlington, Texas to be near her daughter Donna and her family.

Professing her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young child, Kathryn faithfully served in Southern Baptist Churches until her death. She taught children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was active in Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and Bible Study Fellowship in the 1960s and 1970s. Later in life, Kathryn enjoyed the fellowship and many activities, including riding four-wheelers in the Nevada desert, of the senior adult group at First Baptist Church of Sparks, Nevada. She participated in women’s Bible studies and retreats at Redeemer Church, Fort Worth, Texas, into her 90s. Kathryn’s family and friends remember her as gracious, kind, and generous to all and confident in God’s grace and provision throughout her life.

Family members have fond memories of Kathryn’s love of making delicious home-cooked meals and tasty desserts, especially banana pudding and blackberry cobbler. In addition, she was an excellent seamstress and made most of the dresses her daughters wore as children. She served as a 4-H leader in cooking and in sewing. Throughout her life, Kathryn supported and was present at the many activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Robert and Jewel Taylor Ward; her late husbands Don S. York and James S. Pruitt; and her brother Charles Taylor Ward. She is survived by her sister Sharon Ward Davis (Jeff) of Wickenburg, Arizona; daughters Donna York Dean (Larry) of Arlington, Texas and Denise York Young (Roger) of Alpharetta, Georgia; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family thanks the caregivers at Kindful Health and Isle at Watercrest Mansfield for the care and comfort they provided to Kathryn.

Family will receive visitors at Wade Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, Texas 76013, from 4 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 9, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Redeemer Church Forth Worth, 126 N. Judd St, Fort Worth, Texas 76108. There will be a reception and visitation with family in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service.

Family will receive visitors on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 10 to 11:00 am at Walton Funeral Home, 1745 Sullivan Ln, Sparks, Nevada 89431, with a graveside service following at Mountain View Cemetery, 435 Stoker Ave, Reno, Nevada 89503. Family and friends are encouraged to share favorite memories of Kathryn at the appropriate time during the graveside service, which will be inside at the mausoleum.
