Joseph David
Kenner
October 23, 1954 – April 22, 2026
Joseph “David” Kenner, 71, passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2026.
David was born on October 23, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Daniel and Margaret Kenner. He was raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he developed a lifelong love of community, connection, and service.
He graduated college from the University of Arkansas and went on to spend more than 40 years building and growing Kenner’s Kolache Bakery in Arlington, Texas. David was known not only for his dedication to his work, but for the relationships he built along the way. He truly enjoyed visiting with customers, learning their stories, and creating a place where people felt welcome.
David sang with the vocal majority, winning a national championship for a cappella choir, and sang in barbershop quartets throughout the years. He could often be heard singing in the back of the bakery as he prepared his renowned cinnamon rolls.
In his personal time, along with music, David had a deep love for tennis. He was an accomplished tennis player who won numerous awards and trophies over the years, a reflection of both his competitive spirit and dedication to the sport. He especially cherished teaching and playing with his son, Joseph.
David had a heart for serving others. He volunteered with the local school district, supporting children with special needs, and was involved with Special Olympics. He was also an active member of First Baptist Church in Arlington TX, where he sang in the choir and found joy in music and fellowship.
David was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Danny Kenner, and his brother-in-law, Steve Swafford.
He is survived by his wife, Ryshel Kenner, and his son, Joseph, whom he loved and respected unconditionally. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Sarah Ann Thomas, her husband, Michael, and her children, Naomi and Heidi Thomas.
David is lovingly remembered by nieces, Paige Jenkins and her husband Keith and their children, Michael and Penelope Jenkins, and Ashley Seguin and her husband Daniel and their children, Kiera and Jack. He loved them all as his own.
He is also survived by his three adoring sisters, Margaret Swafford, Deenie Becton (Paul) and Nancy Gann (George) along with their extended families, as well as his brother Danny’s wife, Corinne, and her daughters and their families.
David will be remembered for his kindness, his steady presence, and his genuine interest in others. He had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and at home.
A graveside service will be held for family and a memorial at a date to be determined later.
