John Washington Norman departed this life to join his eternal savior Jesus Christ on March 3, 2026, in Arlington, Texas. John was born on October 28, 1927, in Shelbyville, Tennessee to Howard & Ruth Pendley Norman. He grew up on a farm, was baptized in the Petersburg river, and joined the Navy at age 17. John served on the USS Benevolence during WW II.
After the war he attended the University of Tennessee earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. While in Knoxville, John was proud to serve as a trainer for the Volunteers football team. He loved the UT orange and white and proudly supported his team every football season.
Early in his career John worked for McKesson as a salesman calling on pharmacies in Galveston, Texas where he met his beloved wife, Shirley Stark Norman. She was attending nursing school and they married in 1959. John retired as a regional VP after 30 years. His work took the family to several locations including Galveston, Houston, Foster City, CA, Jackson, MS, and Arlington, Texas. He also was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for over 25 years. John and Shirley also attended the North Davis Church of Christ for many years and served faithfully.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, sons, John Jr. (Donna), James, and Andy, grandchildren, Heather, Leah, John Wesley, and Shane who will cherish his memory and continue his legacy. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers Charles, Joe, Paul and Ben.
John's life will be celebrated at a visitation (10 am) and funeral (11:15 am) on Friday, March 13, 2026, at North Davis Church of Christ, 1601 N Davis Dr., Arlington, Texas. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share their memories.
