John Henry Bialas, 78, of Mansfield Texas transitioned peacefully in his sleep on May 12, 2025. Born October 22, 1946 in East Lansing, Michigan but growing up in Grand Rapids, John excelled at nearly everything he tried it would seem. This would eventually lead to a scholarship to play golf at Western Michigan for two years before enlisting in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. While in the Air Force John worked on electronic systems for B-52’s while stationed at Minot Air Force Base. During his time there, he would graduate with a degree in Marketing from Minot State University and create memories that he would love to retell later in life. Following his time in the Air Force, John would go on to begin a successful career in the Railroad Industry. While working as a switchman in the field John would attend night school at Mankato State University and receive his MBA in Economics eventually moving into the office from the field for Burlington Northern in the Marketing Department. From here he would hold various roles and titles until transitioning to his second career in 1995, where he was able to follow his true passion of cooking. As an amateur chef just loving to cater dinner parties and create new foods, John had recipes published in magazines including Bon Appetite and Southern Living. Once he became an executive chef, he was able to create masterpieces of grand scales at hotels like the Sheraton, food shows, and nursing homes. John would semi-retire in 2009 for the next 7 years until health related issues would require it fulltime.
John was preceded in death by his father Peter, mother Lois, and his Golden Doodle he loved so much Chica. While in the Railroad he would find the love of his life, Renee Berard. They began dating in 1983 and tied the knot in October of 1985 having three incredible children during their journey together whom he loved and adored. Though not still married, Renee remained by his side even at the time of his passing along with their youngest daughter Emily. He also leaves behind daughter Mary Claire, son John Jr “Hank” and wife Meredith, his sister Claire Weber and son Chris, his brother Dan and wife Jan and their children James, Kate, and Colleen.
A celebration of life is still pending the final date but will be in Summer of 2026 in Michigan where some of his most cherished memories were created with his family and loved ones. We ask that anyone interested in attending please let the family know so plans may be made accordingly. Donations may be made in his name to the Dementia Society of America, Alzheimer's Association, or your local animal shelter.
