Jerry Lane Leirmo, 76, of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2025, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jerry was born April 1, 1949, in Mondovi, WI, to Ralph Sr. and Elaine (Lahner) Leirmo, and was raised on the family farm in Elk Mound, WI. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1967. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1972, specializing in missile guidance at K.I. Sawyer AFB in Marquette, MI. On June 20, 1970, he married Suzanne Marie Hurt, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 55 years.
He earned his B.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Stout in May 1975. His career included Manufacturing Engineer at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Engineering Manager at Spray Booth Systems in Fort Worth, and Sales with Marlow Industries of Dallas, retiring in 2017. Jerry and Sue joined St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in 1987, in recent years he became an usher and a member of the Men’s Club.
Jerry was known for his passion for sports, coaching his daughters’ softball and basketball teams, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Texas Rangers. He was an aggressive shortstop softball player well into his 60s. He enjoyed playing cards with his 500 card club friends for over 50 years. Jerry being an April fools’ baby, had a playful sense of humor, where he was known for playing practical jokes. He also had a fond love for music and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In his retirement, he built a woodworking shop with his brother Dennis and close friends. Always willing to lend a hand, he was admired for his mechanical skills and generous spirit toward neighbors and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne; two daughters, Renee Leirmo of Burleson TX, and Amy (Jeff) Richards of Wichita, KS; five grandsons, Justin (Claudia) Dechert, Caleb (Alexandra) Dechert, Josh (Emily) Dechert, Tyler (Ashley) Richards, and Trace Richards (MaiLien Anders); and six great-grandchildren Ella Grace, Victoria, Carolyn, Eliza, Alexander, and Christopher. He is also survived by three sisters, Joanne (Arlyn) Solberg of Elk Mound, WI; Barbara (Ben) Topper of Chippewa Falls, WI; Dorothy Goglio of Beaver Dam, WI; three brothers, Ralph Jr. (Mary) Leirmo of Elk Mound, WI; Gene (Wendy) Leirmo of Elk Mound, WI; and Dennis Leirmo of Bloomer, WI; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Sr. and Elaine Leirmo; and his sister Jeanette and her husband, Gerald Onsgard.
A visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Wade Family Funeral Home, Arlington, Texas. The rosary will be held at 7pm. Funeral mass will be held at 10am on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Arlington, Texas. The burial will follow at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
