Jeanne Witham, a beloved friend, wife, and mother, lived fully into her mid-nineties, passing away in June of 2025. Her legacy is one of a deep appreciation of faith, family, learning, and helping others.
Her children remember their mother’s strong, gentle spirit, and her unconditional love and compassionate grace. They also enjoyed her quick-witted humor.
Jeanne spent her childhood in New Jersey. During high school she was a member of the National Honor Society, and the International Thespian Society, for her work in theater, playing key roles in the productions.
After high school, she pursued an interest in the medical field and became a certified medical lab technician, working in multiple hospitals.
While at a square dance club in Philadelphia, Jeanne met her future husband, Robert. They soon married and enjoyed a honeymoon in Bermuda before raising a family of four in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Their children are grateful to their parents for exposing them to a wide variety of experiences through books, music lessons, and travel. The family enjoyed summer vacations traveling across the U.S. in the family station wagon, riding Amtrak trains, and renting a houseboat.
Besides the work of raising a family, Jeanne found time to volunteer. She was a Sunday school teacher, a 4-H Club leader, and a Fresh Air Fund host. She also delivered food to the elderly through Meals on Wheels for many years. Later, she took on the challenge of becoming a forwarding agent for her younger daughter who was working overseas with Pioneer Bible Translators.
After the children were grown, Jeanne worked in several administrative jobs before continuing her medical training to work as a certified EEG Technician until her retirement. She also traveled with friends and family, visiting Alaska and many European countries. She shared one of her favorite vacations with her husband and friends cruising the Mississippi River on the historic Delta Queen paddle-wheel steamboat.
Jeanne’s many hobbies included gardening, where she spent time planting flowers and foliage and tending to her rose bushes. She also loved decorating the family home interiors with different designs and color schemes. She had a beautiful voice, and expressed her faith by singing alto in church choirs. She cherished hymns such as Because He Lives, Face to Face, Higher Ground, It Is Well with My Soul, and For the Beauty of the Earth.
Jeanne’s lifelong love of the spoken and written word continued into her nineties. Her children listened in awe as she recited lengthy classical poems she’d memorized as a teenager. Her morning routine included completing a daily crossword puzzle from the local paper, then challenging herself with one from the New York Times.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her two younger siblings, and her loving husband. She is survived by her four children.
In lieu of flowers, Jeanne’s wish was that donations be made to Pioneer Bible Translators in Duncanville, TX.
