Jay Ranley Godfrey

Ranley Godfrey passed away peacefully at his home on February 25, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly—just one day after celebrating his 82nd birthday.

Born on February 24, 1944, in Fort Worth, TX, Ranley was the son of Emmett and Grace Godfrey, who preceded him in death. He spent his entire life in Arlington, a community he proudly called home.

Ranley graduated from Arlington High School in 1962 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Business from University of Texas at Arlington in 1966. He was the proud co-owner and operator of Godfrey Propane, dedicating much of his life to the business with hard work and commitment. Driving his trucks was more than an occupation—it was part of who he was. He loved being behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler and took great pride in the independence and responsibility that came with owning and operating a family business.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church Arlington, Ranley especially enjoyed his Sunday School class and the fellowship it provided. He also held a deep and lasting connection to Turkey, TX, a place that always felt like home in his heart.

Ranley was devoted to his family and loved them deeply. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Wilma Godfrey; his daughters, Sara South and husband Chase, and Anna McCrillis and husband Scott; his cherished grandchildren, Madeline Godfrey, Collin Ward, Stella McCrillis, Sheperd McCrillis, and Wren McCrillis; his brothers, Clyde Godfrey and wife Virginia, and Eddie Godfrey and wife Marsha; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Known for his vibrant personality, Ranley was always smiling, always happy, and always fully himself. His presence was steady, strong, and unforgettable. He will be remembered for his laughter, his stories, his unwavering dedication to those he loved, and the legacy he leaves behind.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
