James Kaye Slovak, 77, a loving husband, devoted father, brother, proud veteran, and friend, went to be with Jesus on October 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was fondly known as “Jim” or “Jimmy” to those who loved him.
Jim was born on February 5, 1949, in West, Texas to Leon & Ruth Slovak. He was raised in White Settlement, Texas and was a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 1968. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he served as a Communication Specialist and bravely completed a tour of duty on the front lines in Vietnam. His military service reflected the courage, dedication, and quiet strength that would define the rest of his life.
In his younger years, Jim enjoyed working on cars, riding dirt bikes, bowling, and spending time hunting and fishing. He had a spirit of adventure, a strong work ethic, and an appreciation for the simple joys of life.
After honorably serving his country, Jim returned home and began working at Fort Worth Lighting Co., where he met Patricia Thornton “Pat”, the love of his life. The two were married on September 24, 1977, at First United Methodist Church, where they remained faithful members for more than 31 years. They were inseparable, sharing a love of travel and creating a warm, loving home in Arlington, TX. He was an incredible husband, spiritual leader of the home and an amazing Dad to Parrish and Lindsay.
Jim was a dedicated UPS package car driver for more than 33 years. He took great pride in his work, earned numerous awards and honors for outstanding service, and made many lifelong friends along the way. He was known for his dependability, integrity, and willingness to help others.
One of Jim's greatest gifts was his sharp mind. He was very intelligent, resourceful, and knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects. Whether solving a problem, offering practical advice, or sharing life lessons, he always seemed to have the answer. Family members often turned to him for guidance because they trusted his wisdom, common sense, and thoughtful perspective. He had a knack for trivia and a profound knowledge of history.
After retirement, Jim enjoyed spending time with family, taking road trips, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, spending time with his grand pups and building an impressive coin collection. He took great pride in maintaining his pristine yard and enjoyed many trips to Winstar and Shreveport. He also had a generous heart and quietly supported many individuals and organizations that were meaningful to him.
Above all else, Jim cherished his family. He shared countless memories with Pat, his daughters, his beloved grand pups, and his extended family. He was stoic, dependable, and the rock of the family, always ready with sound advice, words of encouragement, and lessons rooted in faith and life experiences. His strength provided comfort, his wisdom provided direction, and his love provided a foundation for all who knew him.
Jim leaves behind a wonderful family who will honor his legacy and forever cherish the memories they shared. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Pat Slovak; his daughters, Deana Parrish Slovak (Randall) and Lindsay Nicole Slovak; his grand pups, Marley and Dylan; siblings Kenneth Slovak (Lenette), Patsy Greathouse, Jeanne Smith, Dorothy Fisher, and Sheila Byrom (Jim); nephews Craig Slovak (Cari), Steven Greathouse (Marissa), and Patrick Greathouse; nieces Stephanie Eudaly (Jon), Candice Graves (Brad), Dee Hudson (Chris), Staci Flinn (Cody), Brandi Fisher-Phillips (DJ), Jennifer Miller (Jonathan), Holly Orr (Dalton), and Hannah Byrom; many cousins; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ruth (Deiterman) Slovak, and brothers-in-law, Bob Greathouse, and Tommy Smith.
Though he will be deeply missed, Jim's legacy of faith, service, generosity, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family will live on in all who knew him.
