Obituary

James Cecil Newland, Jr. (his friends knew him by J.C.)' was born September 17, 1930, and died June 5, 2026, at the age of 95 years.

His family was a farming family in Martin County, TX, during the Dust Bowl days and the Great Depression of the 1930s. His parents were James Cecil Ashford Newland and Georgia Lee Waters; his four siblings were: Melvin Grady Newland, Earl Bedford Newland, Iva Arra Lee Newland Latham, and Floyd Fain Newland, all of whom predeceased him.

He attended multiple small schools in Martin County, TX, and graduated from Stanton High School at the age of 17. He married his High School sweetheart, Dorthy Lee Eubanks, two weeks later, on May 29, 1948. They lived in Big Springs for a short time, after which J.C. began a 38-year career with Texas Electric Service Company, starting in Andrews, TX, as a Jr. Clerk in 1949. They started their family with the birth of two daughters, Karen Ann and Barbara Kay.

J.C. was transferred to Monahans as Head Clerk in 1952, so the daughters grew up in the sand dunes, and played clarinets in the Monahans High School Big Green Band. Karen Ann married Raymond Eugene Dawson before the start of her senior year, and Barbara Kay graduated from MHS in 1970. While in Monahans, twins Linda Diane and Roger David were added to the family in 1961.

TESCO then transferred J.C. to their District Office in Midland, where he worked as an Accounting Supervisor, and then transferred him to TESCO's Fort Worth General Office in February of 1979. When he retired after 38 years of service, he was working as a Customer Accounting Specialist.

After retirement, he and Dorothy spent many years doing family research while traveling in their RV. He was active in the Arlington Genealogy Society, the Sons of the American Revolution, and served as an elder at Woodland West Church of Christ. He was also a volunteer for Lifeline Chaplaincy and did benevolent work for Hearts & Hands.

In 2016, he and his wife felt their yardwork and household chores were becoming more than they could handle, so they sold the Arlington home they had enjoyed for 37 years and moved to Lakewood Village. Then in September of 2025 they moved to Morada Lake Arlington to live out their final days together on this earth. His wife, Dorothy Lee Eubanks Newland, 78 years of marriage, passed away on May 20, 2026. JC joined the love of his life just 16 short days later.

JC was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, his daughter Karen Ann Magnus, Karen's daughter Jennifer and son Raymond Eugene Dawson Jr.

He is also preceded in death by his wife of 78 years, Dorothy Newland.

He is survived by daughters Barbara Kay Burell and Diane Johnson, and son David Newland, ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors who loved him dearly.

Celebration of Life will be at Woodland West Church of Christ, 3101 W

Park Row, Arlington, TX, under the direction of Wade Family Funeral Home and Crematorium. Randy Todd will officiate.
