Gregory “Greg” Taylor Herd, known affectionately to family and friends as Greg, Greggi, Pawpaw, and Papa Herd, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife on November 5, 2025, at his home in Arlington, Texas. He was 68 years old.
Greg was born on October 16, 1957, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was raised in Kansas City, Kansas, and at the age of 17, returned to Texas to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force as a law enforcement specialist.
On November 3, 1979, Greg married the love of his life, Sheila Kay. The two met, fell deeply in love, and were married just eight months later—a love story that endured for 46 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with devotion, laughter, and family.
Greg was a man who loved working with his hands. He found his calling with Harris Custom Counters, where he dedicated many years of hard work before retiring. In retirement, Greg embraced life to the fullest. For the past 18 years, he enjoyed traveling—especially to casinos—golfing, whittling canes, cheering at his grandchildren’s games and school events, and spending time with dear friends who became family at his favorite gathering place, No Frills Grill & Sports Bar, his own version of “Cheers.”. He was a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys—no matter what anyone said about them—and he cheered just as passionately for the championship win that the Texas Rangers took home. His second favorites and worthy of praise were the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Greg’s presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Herd; his children, Brandy Herd Willis and husband Torin Willis of Arlington, Texas, and Bradley Herd and wife Sumer of Arlington, Texas; and his beloved grandchildren, Torin D. Willis Jr., Malcom Willis, Madeline Zhanel, Grayson Herd, and Brendon Herd.
Greg is also survived by his siblings Jeffrey Herd and Kelli Herd. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Lee Herd and wife Pat Herd; his mother, Barbara Ann Herd and husband Herbert Mundt; and his siblings Rodney Herd, Staci Herd, Cheryl Pebley, and Tim Mundt.
Greg will be remembered as a kindhearted, gentle, and generous man—a loving soul whose laughter, wisdom, and love for life will live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Magnolia Hospice or the American Cancer Society in Greg’s honor.
