It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gatha Jane Singleton, beloved mother, educator, and cherished friend, who left this world peacefully on January 8, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on July 15, 1939, and she grew up in Alice, Texas, Gatha was a vibrant spirit whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Gatha’s educational journey began at Baylor University, where she majored in music, nurturing her extraordinary talent as a soprano. Her passion for music led her to grace the stage of Bass Hall, where she mesmerized audiences with her operatic performances. It was at Baylor where she crossed paths with her future husband, a dashing young fighter pilot, during choir practice. Their unforgettable moment of getting lost together on a choir trip to Disneyland fueled a lifelong partnership that was filled with love, laughter, and shared passion for music.
For over 30 years, Gatha dedicated her life to shaping young minds, first by teaching music then on to kinder and 4th grade as a beloved teacher. Her devotion to education and her students was unwavering, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and inspiration. A member of the Arlington Women's Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution, she actively contributed to her community and was a passionate supporter of Mission Arlington.
Gatha's adventurous spirit shone brightly as she traveled the world for 10 years after her retirement, collecting stories and memories that she cherished deeply. Her love for animals and her early drive for achievement were just a few of the qualities that defined her spirited heart.
Gatha was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Mildred Roberts.
Survived by her loving sons, Gary Singleton and Glen Singleton; and her three grandchildren, Greg, Grace, and Aunika. Gatha leaves behind a family that adored her and treasured the lessons she imparted through her kindness and strength. Her gentle soul will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 6-8pm at Wade Funeral Home, Arlington, Texas. Funeral services honoring Gatha's life will be held Friday, January 23, 2026, at 10am at Wade Funeral Home, Arlington, Texas. A graveside in Corsicana, Texas will follow services at a later date.
An opportunity for family and friends to gather, share memories, and celebrate the beautiful life she lived. In times of sorrow, we find solace in the shared moments that made Gatha who she was—a beloved mother, an inspiring teacher, and a true friend. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the melodies of the music she so dearly loved.
