Gary LaRue Tissue, Sr., passed away on March 13, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born on August 22, 1939, in Houston, Texas, to Alice (Everett) and Clyde Tissue.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy., Arlington, Texas 76013. He will be laid to rest at 10:30am on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., Dallas, Texas 75211.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 22 years, retiring with the rank of Major. During his distinguished military career, he was a combat pilot in Vietnam and completed multiple tours of duty. In recognition of his courage and service, he was awarded the Air Medal. His life was marked by a deep commitment to his nation, exemplifying honor, bravery, and a steadfast sense of duty.
Following his military retirement, Gary continued his career with Bell Helicopter and later served his community as a substitute teacher for HEB ISD. In all his roles, he was known as a dedicated, dependable, and principled man.
Above all, Gary was devoted to his family. He was a good man with a strong sense of duty, whose love and guidance left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Nita Tissue; and his siblings, Charles Tissue, C.L. Tissue, Mabel Sellers, and Wanda Lee (Tissue) Haney.
Gary is survived by his sons, Gary Tissue, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, and John Tissue and his wife Mary; his grandchildren, Dylan Tissue, Sarah Mabini Waddell, Natalie Tissue-Crews, Cindy Rea, Grant Tissue, and Andrew Tissue; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Alice Jean Tissue.
Gary’s legacy of service, integrity, and love for his family will be remembered always.
