Obituary

Ella Bond Vestal, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, surrounded by her children and family.

Ella was born on June 14, 1934, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Catherine (Bond) Reeves and Clifton A. Reeves. She spent her early years surrounded by a large extended family, making cherished memories and enjoying many adventures in Louisiana that she would fondly recall throughout her life.

She attended East Texas Baptist College, where she met the love of her life, James Gordon Vestal. The two married shortly after graduation, beginning a devoted partnership that would span decades and continents.

After their marriage, they settled in Memphis, Tennessee, where they welcomed their two sons, Clif and Clay. In 1963, they followed a calling to serve as missionaries in Chile, where they spent several meaningful years and welcomed their daughters, Susan and Missy. This chapter of her life reflected her deep faith, resilience, and commitment to others.

Ella dedicated 30 years to teaching, shaping the lives of countless students with patience and care. Yet, her greatest joy and proudest role was that of wife, mother, and grandmother. She created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting presence of good food. An excellent cook and baker, she expressed her love through meals shared around the table, a tradition that became central to family gatherings.

She also had a creative spirit and loved painting and drawing, especially alongside her grandchildren. These moments became some of the most treasured memories for those who knew her.

Ella was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Gordon Vestal, her parents, her brother, Clifton Reeves, and her daughter, Susan Vestal Patrick.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Clif Vestal and Kelly Cavanaugh, Clay and Lola Vestal, and Marilyn (“Missy”) and Andy Krofchalk. She also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, each of whom she adored deeply and who will carry forward her legacy of love, kindness, and family.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to East Texas Baptist University or Breakthrough T1D (Type 1 Diabetes).
