Walter George Osborne, M.D., of Arlington, Texas, entered his heavenly home on May 5, 2026, at 3:03 p.m., at the age of 79, following a courageous and enduring 27-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Walter was born on November 18, 1946, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to John and Frances Osborne. At a young age, his family settled in Arlington, where he attended Blanton Elementary, Carter Junior High, and Arlington High School, graduating in 1965. It was during these formative years that he met the love of his life, Janice, beginning a beautiful journey that would span 57 devoted years of marriage.
A gifted athlete, Walter earned a full scholarship to play football at Rice University. In a thoughtful decision guided by his health, he later transferred to the University of Texas at Arlington, where he graduated with a degree in Mathematics and Physics. Encouraged by a professor who recognized his talent and calling, Walter pursued medicine and earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston on May 31, 1975.
Walter’s medical career was marked by both excellence and innovation, reflecting his entrepreneurial spirit and deep compassion for others. His work included serving as a Radiation Research Physicist for the government, an Emergency Room physician at Harris Hospital, and Chief of Staff of the Emergency Department at John Peter Smith Hospital. He also faithfully served veterans at the VA Hospital and provided care through locum tenens work in underserved communities across Indian reservations in New Mexico. Early in his career, he broke new ground as the first to open a Minor Emergency Clinic in Arlington. After decades of devoted service, he retired from emergency medicine at the age of 68.
He was a respected member of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and served as Director of the Ambulance Board of Tarrant County, contributing his leadership and expertise to the advancement of emergency care in his community.
Walter’s life was deeply rooted in his steadfast faith in Christ. A longtime member of Pantego Bible Church for 26 years, he served faithfully as an elder and joyfully invested in the lives of others. He dedicated seven years to Student Ministry, volunteered at youth camps, and spent many years teaching four-year-olds in Sunday School, finding great joy in sharing his faith with the youngest members of the church.
His commitment to spiritual growth extended through more than 28 years with Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), where he served as a discussion leader for over a decade. Such was his devotion that he regularly arranged his emergency room schedule around Saturday leadership meetings. He especially treasured taking his three grandsons to Monday evening gatherings—a legacy of faith that also influenced his son-in-law’s active involvement in BSF.
In later years, Walter and Janice attended Rush Creek Church, where they continued to grow spiritually and witness God’s work in their lives. As Parkinson’s disease limited his ability to attend, Janice also became involved with Gospel City Church, and together they held a deep love and appreciation for both congregations.
Above all, Walter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His heart for his family was evident in the way he showed up—faithfully and consistently—for every moment that mattered. Whether cheering from the sidelines at early YMCA games or attending countless events through the years, he rarely missed an opportunity to support his grandsons. From Jacob’s tennis matches and theater performances at Martin High School, to Clayton’s basketball games at Boles, Martin, and competitive leagues, to Griffin’s athletic pursuits in track, basketball, and football at Grace Prep—Walter was a steady and loving presence.
He also found great joy in creating memories with his family. A gifted sailor, Walter led many adventures on the water, and family vacations were a cherished part of life. He especially loved holidays and any occasion that gathered his loved ones together.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Osborne; his brother, John Osborne; his in-laws, Robert and Madeleine McLellan; his brothers- and sister-in-law, Michael McLellan, Robert McLellan Jr., and Bonnie McLellan Lindly; and his beloved nephew, Mac McLellan.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Janice McLellan Osborne; his son, John Andrew “Andy” Osborne; his daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Scott Norris; and his cherished grandsons, Jacob, Clayton, and Griffin Norris. He is also survived by his extended family, Sandra & Mike Pirkle, nieces & nephews Scott Pirkle M.D, Paul Pirkle, Kate Walker, Mike McLellan, Patrick McLellan, Brian Lindly, Darren Lindly, Shannon Covey.
Walter will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his compassionate service, his leadership in medicine, and the deep and abiding love he had for his family. His legacy is one of kindness, faithfulness, generosity, and a life well lived in service to others.
Walter's Celebration of Life is Wednesday, May 20th, at 4:00 pm held at Rush Creek Church/Green Oaks Campus
