Dorothy Lee Eubanks was born on March 22, 1931, to Lee Henry Eubanks and Eula May Masters on their family farm about 3 miles West of Stanton, Texas. She grew up with two older brothers, Arlie and Earl, and an older sister, Mildred. Her father died when Dorothy was 4 years old, so she was raised by her widowed Mother.
Following her graduation from Stanton High School, she married her high school sweetheart on May 29, 1948. At the time of her death, they had been married almost 78 years.
Dorothy was a faithful member of the Woodland West Church for over 40 years, when they sold their home in Arlington and moved to Lakewood Village, a Senior Living community.
Her career, besides being a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, included: Several years as secretary for the Third & Dwight Church of Christ in Monahans, while raising her children: Karen Ann, Barbara Kay, along with 8-month-old adopted twins Diane and David Then, when her husband transferred from Monahans to Midland, she worked as a Clerical Supervisor for Farmers Insurance in Midland. When he transferred to Fort Worth, she continued with Farmers until she retired in 1982.
Other activities included serving as an officer of the Arlington Genealogical Society, the Lucretia Council Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Julia Jackson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Real G-Granddaughter of the Confederacy. She also volunteered for twelve years at Hearts and Hands.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her daughter Kaen Ann Magnus, Karen's daughter Jennifer, and son Raymond Earl Dawson Jr. She is survived by her husband of almost 78 years, J.C. Newland, daughters Barbara Kay Burell, and Diane Johnson, son David Newland, ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors who loved her dearly.
Celebration of Life will be at Woodland West Church of Christ, 3101 W. Park Row, Arlington, TX, under the direction of Wade Family Funeral Home and Crematorium. Randy Todd will officiate.
