Dorothy Louise Heinzman

Dorothy Louise Linguist Heinzman, 89, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026. A tall, graceful, and deeply kind woman whose life was defined by unwavering love for her family, she left this world surrounded by the people she cherished most. Born and raised in Fort Worth by her parents, Dee and Osborne Linguist, Dorothy grew into a gentle soul of quiet strength, patience, and steadfast principle. She often said, “We are the kind of people you look up to,” and she lived those words every day.

She met the love of her life, Homer, on a religious retreat while attending the University of Texas in Austin. He was studying electrical engineering; she was earning her degree in food and nutrition. They married and shared 69 years of devoted marriage until his passing in 2025. Dorothy would affectionately say about her life with Homer that she was a “kept woman”—and who wouldn’t be, he brought her a hot cup of coffee every morning throughout their long marriage. Together they built a life rich in love, laughter, and tradition.

Dorothy was a foodie long before the term existed. She prepared countless memorable meals for her family and friends and took special joy in baking cookies with her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. “The best part of baking cookies is eating the dough,” she would tell them with a knowing smile. Every Christmas Eve she set a lavish Swedish smörgåsbord table—honoring her father’s heritage—continuing a treasured family tradition filled with laughter, stories, and the glue of togetherness she so carefully tended.

She delighted in hospitality and fellowship, hosting Bridge games, Canasta groups, women’s club gatherings, and Serendipity Group meetings with grace and warmth. Dorothy and Homer traveled widely with friends to destinations such as: Sweden, Europe, Russia, China, Australia, Alaska, and Hawaii. Closer to home, she found simple joy in dancing with Homer and playing games, always the gracious hostess and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Dorothy is survived by her son Gregg and his wife Sherri Heinzman of Mansfield, Texas; her younger son Scott and his wife Mary Heinzman of Chicago, Illinois; and her grandchildren Stephanie and Mat, Ashley and Eric, Preston and Andrea, Sara and Shawn, and Leah. She also left 11 great-grandchildren as well many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family who were enriched by her.

She is also survived by her two brothers and their wives: Ozzie and Maureen Linguist of Goldthwaite, Texas, Tom and Ann Linguist of Nashville, Tennessee, and sister in law Elenor Heinzman of Las Cruses, New Mexico.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Homer Heinzman 2025, her daughter Linda Heinzman Nix 2008, her parents Osborne and Dee Linguist, and her sister and brother in law Virginia and Frank Winker and niece Jeanne Winker.

A woman of quiet dignity, tender heart, and steadfast integrity, Dorothy stood tall—in stature and in spirit—for all that was right and good. Her patience, kindness, and fierce devotion to family remain the measure of a life well lived, now carried forward as a living tradition by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
